Country Daze - First Annual |
|
We hosted Country Daze on Saturday, August 28, 2004 at the
Corcoran Park and Ball Fields. The weather was on the cool side for the end
of August, but still a gorgeous day.
The softball tournament started early that morning. Tournament results
were: 1st place Mutt Dogs/Sports Diamonds out of Hanover, 2nd Place
Boilermakers out of St. Michael and tied for 3rd place Team Bud and Loram
out of Corcoran.
By noon the food was cooking and the corn feed was on. The corn
feed was organized by Lynda and Al of Corcoran Country Pizza Parlor and
sponsored by the following area businesses: 10-50 Club, A1/Napa Auto, Custom
Filtration, Ebert Construction, Lawn King, Lil Jack’s, Thorpe Distributing
and Westside Tire.
Afternoon games and activities included face painting, softball toss,
minnow races and a coin dig. At 7 pm Chase Roberts and the Thunder Road band
took the stage in the beer tent for an evening of great music and dancing.
(Followed by some late night bets at the minnow races!)
Although we lost money this first year, it was still a success. Virtually
no glitches for a first-time event of this caliber is fantastic! Many thanks
to all of our members (alumni included) and their families who contributed
in one way or another.
Golf Tournament Recap - 16th Annual |
|
Our 16th annual golf tournament and fundraiser was held September 18th at
Pheasant Acres Golf Course in Corcoran. It was a gorgeous day for golf!
The men’s first place team was the J. Cousineau’s foursome with a score
of 58. First place for the mixed teams went to the Mid-America Mortgage team
of Shawn Tharp, Troy Nygard and Pat and Cathy Bauer, with a score of 65.
The coveted last place prize went to Leah Nybo’s team. There was a skins
game as well as individual contests for both men and women including longest
drive, longest putt and closest to the pin.
Dinner, catered by the Corcoran Meat Locker, was served as the teams came
off the course. The final event was yet to come with a $500 prize at stake
for the Long Putt contest. After qualifying earlier in the day, the
finalists participated in a ‘Putt Off’ and although no one made the putt,
the closest was our very own Troy Nygard who walked away with the $500
cash!
Following the meal and putting contest the team and contest winners were
announced and door prizes were awarded. The prizes included gift
certificates, clothing items, golf clubs and golf related products, cases of
beer, etc. About $1500 was raised. Proceeds from the tournament go into our
general fund. Thanks to all the members who turned out to help or
contributed by golfing!
Many thanks to Shawn & Michelle Tharp for hosting the ditch clean-up crew
before and after. The food & drinks were great! Look forward to seeing you
all next spring to help beautify the roads of Corcoran once again.
