The Jaycees have made every attempt to try and get age appropriate candy and
gifts. We do ask that the parent/adult accompany the kids and look
over the candy and prizes won to make sure the candy/prizes are age
appropriate or won't cause allergic reactions to the child.
Parents/Adults who accompany children are responsible to monitor child's
consumption; even though we are trying to provide more than just candy at
this event. Kids will ultimately be kids!] |

Corcoran Country Daze
Recap
After several months of
planning and two days of set-up the first day of Corcoran Country Daze 2007
finally arrived Friday August 17th and things remained dry. The softball
teams kicked off the 24-team tournament shortly after 6 PM. The band "The
Law" took the stage to provide great free music under the big tent from 7:30
pm until 12:30 am. The numbers were small that night as the crowds expected
from the truck and tractor pull went elsewhere. Despite the forecasts,
things were still dry Saturday morning as tournament play continued...but
set-up for the free family day activities was frantically underway trying to
accommodate as many planned activities as they could under the tents given
the impending rain! The tractor, police, fire and rescue exhibits were
there along with several crafters and kids games. The Old West reenactments
provided entertainment as well as startling shots from their pistols during
the shoot outs. At 5 pm more great live music began with the band "Switch"
until 7:30 when the stage was cleared to make room for the Killer Hayseeds.
The band took a break shortly after 9:30 for the fireworks display. Several
cars parked in the lot to enjoy the show along with those in attendance at
the concert. It was also at this time that the final softball teams wrapped
up play in the tournament, agreeing to a tie and splitting the cash prize
vs. playing another game in the mud at that hour. Results of the softball
tournament are as follows: Co-champions: Majors/Corcoran JC's and Team Bud,
3rd place: Dave's Sport Shop - Plymouth, 4th place: Inn Kahoots - Hamel,
Consolation Winner: Hit Men - Maple Grove. (The home run contest was
cancelled due to rain.)
Minnow racing and the nail game
were entertaining the crowd under the big tent, $1 to play and the winner
got a t-shirt and the pride of knowing they won. The raffle drawing was
held on stage at midnight with the band drawing the winners. Amazingly the
same name was drawn for both prizes, the brand new Polaris ATV and the $500
cash check! But that winner chose to donate back the money so another
person could win. The band continued their last set and closed the house
down. Clean up began immediately after. With a short break for some sleep
for the volunteers, clean up continued again all day Sunday. The youth
baseball tournament that had been planned for Sunday was called off due to
all the rain and the condition of the fields. Thanks to the many sponsors
of the event it wasn't a total loss. "After three years of decent weather,
one rain out isn't so bad. Hard to complain when we needed the rain so
badly! At least we didn't have lightening to contend with, that would have
shut down the whole event. We hope to go bigger next year and bring in
someone like the Johnny Holm Band in addition to the Killer Hayseeds to
celebrate our 5th annual." Said Chad Robran, of the Corcoran JC's and the
Country Daze Planning Committee. Mark your calendars for the 5th annual
event next year, August 15th & 16th 2008 - rain or shine - and come out to
support your community and this great event.
