  15th Easter Egg/Candy Hunt 10:00 a.m. Sharp!
Rain or Shine!
At: Corcoran City Hall
8200 County Road 116, Corcoran
[Disclaimer:  The Jaycees have made every attempt to try and get age appropriate candy and gifts.  We do ask that the parent/adult accompany the kids and look over the candy and prizes won to make sure the candy/prizes are age appropriate or won't cause allergic reactions to the child.  Parents/Adults who accompany children are responsible to monitor child's consumption; even though we are trying to provide more than just candy at this event.  Kids will ultimately be kids!]

Happy Easter!

What a beautiful day we had for this event!  They were originally predicting rain; but we had nothing but sunshine!

We didn't have as many kids as we have had in the past; but when you looked out, all you could see was a sea of kids.

As usual, the kids had the candy gone in about
15 minutes!  The Easter Bunny came and many got there picture taken with him.  Everyone I talked to had a good time.

All the prizes were claimed except one.  If you have the matching medallion to the prize you can claim it by contacting:

Rachel at 763-420-7645 or rachelorsteven@yahoo.com;

I will then drop it off at City Hall.

This year we tried doing a few projects before the hunt began to fill some of the kids time.  Those who participated seem to enjoy themselves.  The only real glitch we had was the wind.  If you enjoyed this and would like us to continue this tradition or have any other ideas for this event; please send us feed back at: webmastercorcoranjaycees@yahoo.com.

I wanted to personally thank all the Jaycee Members, their families and friends and a few of my friends along with the Corcoran Police Department for helping me get set up this morning, and of course making sure everything was cleaned up afterwards!

I really appreciate everyone's help and could not have pulled this off with out all of you.

~ Rachel

How do you pick the winners, when all the kids are deserving of scholarships?  We have to break it down by scoring four categories:  Academic, financial, community involvement and personal achievements.

We managed after 2 hours to get through all the applications and were able to come up with a list of the top 15 students who will receive the scholarships at the awards ceremony later this month.

Watch for a list of names to follow.

A special thanks to those who helped with the scholarship judging this year and a special cheer for Tonya our scholarship chair person this year!

Purpose: To Hand Out Scholarships To Recipients!

The Corcoran Jaycee's Scholarship Committee was truly "wowed" by this year's applicants.  We focused our scoring on four categories: Leadership, Community Involvement, Financial Need and Academics.  The committee thoroughly enjoyed reading each of the 26 applications, but in the end had to select the top 15 candidates.  We believe each of the scholarship winners are determined to help others in this community and will continue to be successful in their future endeavors.

Corcoran Country Daze Recap

The rain held off and it was a great weekend at the 3rd Annual Corcoran Country Daze August 18th & 19th at the Corcoran Community Park.  The softball tournament kicked things off Friday afternoon.  A young band from Rockford called The Catapults provided free music over the dinner hour before the evening culminated with a great performance by Jonah and the Whales under the big tent.

Saturday was Family Day and the main event day.  Although tournament play continued, this day was all about the kids!  There were lots of free games and activities going on including rock climbing, face painting, moon bounce, tractor display, free cedar bird house building, Scottish dancers, a dunk tank and more.  “We loved it and had a great time.  Our favorite was the Scottish dancers!” said Sarah Paksima of Corcoran, mother of three.  The ever-popular emergency services display of fire trucks, an ambulance and police car was highlighted by a demonstration of the Jaws of Life on a car with real-life passenger JC member Tonya LaFave inside!  Also an exciting fly-in by the North Air Care trauma helicopter!  Most activities went late into the afternoon as tournament play continued.

Tournament results are as follows:  1st place - Team Bud of Corcoran, 2nd place - Get Auto of Corcoran, 3rd place - PEI of Corcoran, Consolation winners – X-Rated and Co-Ed winners were Black Bear I.  A home run contest was also held with cash prizes to 1st and 2nd place.

After more free music from the Catapults, The Killer Hayseeds took the stage in the beer tent for an evening of great music and dancing for all ages.  At dusk there was a fireworks display which was new to the event this year and drew a good crowd.  Those in attendance where awed by the display exploding overhead.  The raffle drawing was held at Midnight.  The grand prize winner of a 2006 Polaris 450 ATV was Dave Poppler of Corcoran.  First prize was $500 and there were four additional cash prizes of $100 each.

Come on out next year for the 4th annual Corcoran Country Daze August 17th & 18th 2007 for good food, music and fun benefiting the local community!  Contact Chad of the Corcoran JC’s for ideas, feedback or to volunteer next year at 612-965-7539.

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Thanks once again for Amanda for chairing this event, and for all the Jaycees who helped or came out in support with their little ones!

The costumes this year were great!  We had more games than ever this year, including a cupcake walk and sac races.

We did manage to get some sunshine, but it was sure cold outside; but from the looks of the pictures, it didn't stop the kids from coming out to find all the candy!

A special thanks this year to the Lions for donating some money to help make this event bigger and better!  We also want to give a special thanks to Mama G's for letting us host the event here again this year.
