2005 - Event Highlights

A recap of a few of the events as they happened this year.

December

  10th  Annual Santa Visit 10:00 a.m. - Noon

At: Corcoran City Hall (763) 420-2288
  8200 County Road 116 www.ci.corcoran.mn.us
  Corcoran, MN 55340

Cost: Was Free With Food Shelf Donation!

Santa made it just in time to visit with about 50 kids from around the community and have his picture taken and hear there wishes for this year.  He also brought a few Elves and Frosty!
After each child took his picture with Santa, they got to pick a gift from under the tree and had cookies and punch.

This year your food donations were extra special, all food collected at this years event was personally being delivered to Hurricane Survivors; by one of our very own Jaycee members:
(Tonya Lafave), she was heading out to Mississippi to personally deliver the food and other donations and help out and make the holidays a little brighter this year for those less fortunate.  A special thanks to Tonya for her efforts!

(Update:  Tonya had a safe trip to Long Beach, MI; they delivered all the food that was donated and money given to her for the Hurricane victims.  She said the trip was an amazing experience and anyone interested in doing something like this should.  It's hard to conceive that so many months after the Hurricane's that there is still so much devastation; and in places it seems hardly anything has been done.  The workers slept in a gym (they were fortunate, the temps were around freezing and many victims were still sleeping in tents).  They would serve meals to around 1,500 to 2,000 people a day.  They also spent some time off site working on debris removal in a home.  We applaud her efforts and hope the donations made a differences in some lives that she and her group touched, we know they did).

This year's winners of the prizes were as follows:

bulletBoys Bike - Tommy Olson
bulletGirls Bike - Megan Hall
bulletTrike - Aliyah Robran
bulletTinker Toys - Tyler Schutte
bulletBaby - Mackenzie Christensen
bulletPuppy - Hannah G.

All winner's did not need to be present to win, however if you did win, gifts can be picked up at City Hall.

This event wrapped up our year - we wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!  May God Bless you and keep you safe, we hope to see you at some of our events next year!

Wreath Preparations After Work

3rd

Pick-Up & Wreath Delivery Mid-Morning

At: Chad & Melonie's House
In The Big Building

This year's wreath fundraiser was a success!

We sold almost 300 wreaths.  Remember, if you would like to buy a wreath from the Jaycees for next year; just give us a call or check with one of our members.  If you are like me, finding someone who actually still sells them has been impossible and the proceeds again go back into the community in which we live.

Our 2nd Annual County Daze Event - Started with the softball tournaments. We had 22 teams kicking off this years tournaments!  Last year we had 8 teams and next year we are shooting for 50 (we would like some women's teams next year).

The weather was in our favor and everything started happening like clockwork thanks to our Jaycees crew.  The first part of the night started off slow, but by the end of the evening we had a full-house!

The grill was on high gear (in fact we had to start the grill up for one last round near last call),
the beer gardens never slowed down (I couldn't even get close enough to get a picture of our Jaycee beer crew).

The Killer Hayseeds performed and what a job they did!  They were magnificent and drew quite the crowd.  For those of you that missed this event, you missed out on good times. Check out the pictures to see fun was had by all and overall our event has started with quite a bang for the 2nd Annual.

Jonah & The Whales are playing tomorrow, we hope you will all come back and bring your friends.

Today was all about kids, we had hayrides, a dunk tank (many took hits at the Mayor and Police Chief), tug-of-war, bounce cage, face painting, spin art, leap frog, batting cage, and even build a duck house.  We also had our local police, fire and rescue out and visible with stickers, badges and hats for the kids.  The ultimate was when the rescue helicopter landed in the field out back - all the kids went running.

For adults and kids alike, we did dabble in a few bingo games and had many winners - walking away with large prizes like $5.

The evening cooled down and Jonah & The Whales was our entertainment for the night, our turnout was not as high as the night before, but as you can see by the pictures - those who attended had a really good time.  The band was a lot of fun too, they even posed for me on our grand prize - a Polaris 4-wheeler - check out the pictures below.

At 10:00 p.m. we drew names for the 7 prizes and can you believe not one person was present during the drawings (it was not necessary to be present, it would have just caused a little more excitement).  Word spread and someone called the grand prize winner - he ended up showing up later in the night to claim his prize.  He said, "he does not have a 4-wheeler at this time, but looks forward to enjoying his new prize", he also said, "this never happens to him".  Congrats to our big winner Kevin!

Scholarship Judging - 2005 June 8th

The scholarship judging was a hit!  Eight of us met at Tonya's house and poured through 23 applications.  The score sheets made it all that much more difficult; because all of the candidates were deserving recipients of these scholarships!  We focused our scoring on four categories: Leadership, Community Involvement, Financial Need and Academics. The scholarship recipients will be announced on July 23rd.

Easter Egg Hunt - 2005

On Your Mark - Get Set - Go!

And they were off; hundreds of local children lined up at Corcoran City Hall just waiting to run as fast as they could to find Easter candy that was hidden all over the grounds.  Many parents and on-lookers watched as the kids filled up their baskets with candy.

These kids are becoming masters at the hunt, and it was all over in about 10 minutes.  The kids then took pictures with the Easter Bunny and then they were off with their parents to enjoy the candy they found.
